Manuel Mertin

Manuel Mertin Bio PhotoNow retired and Dean Emeritus, Manuel Mertin, worked at MRC/MRU from 1974 to 2013 as Professor of Political Science, later as Chair of the Department of Policy Studies, and, for eleven years, as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, overseeing 50% growth of the Faculty. He played a central role in the transition to MRU both at the institutional and Faculty level. After retirement in 2012, he was asked to return as Acting VP-Academic in 2013 during a severe, externally imposed funding crisis, which, with major, strategic programming decisions in the division and corresponding adjustments in other divisions, was resolved. In retirement, he and his wife Jindra divide their time between Calgary and the south of France. When in Calgary, he is still in demand as a guest lecturer and, to his own surprise, has guest lectured in eight different disciplines.
